Morpheus (2025)
for chamber orchestra
MORPHEUS was written for a special purpose: The Danish Radio initiated aproject in 2024 aiming to create podcast series with music experiences that would work against stress or mental diseases.
The Danish Chamber Orchestra (Danmarks Underholdningsorkester) decided to take part in this project and commisioned 10 short new pieces by different composers for a concert and for recordings.
Morpheus was the Greek god of dreams. Son of Hypnos (god of sleeping) and Nyx (goddess of the night), he was a master in creating dreams, and when in the arms of Morpheus people would enjoy a sound sleep.Perhaps even look into their future or coming events, for Morpheus was a dream messenger - communicating divine messages throug images, stories and dreams.
The piece is part of my Olympic Suite - musical portraits of the ancient Greek gods. John Frandsen
