Twilight for guitarduo er et søsterværk til HighLight for fløjte og guitar. Men selvom de to værker stort set udspringer af samme musikalske materiale, er deres grundstemning alligevel forskellig som dag og nat: Hvor “HighLight” er en hyldest til det frostklare vinterlys, er guitarduoen tåget og tusmørkeagtig - som en nocturne.
Det dunkle lys anslås allerede i stykkets åbning, hvor de to guitarister fremmaner en sitrende, insektsummende atmosfære i urolige faldende bevægelser. Musikken falder gradvist til ro og bliver mere og mere sart og tyst. Ud af disen vokser en korallignende aftenhymne, der til slut må overlade scenen til nattens vilde og hvirvlende vinde.
Twilight for guitar duo is to a large extent based on the same musical material as HighLight for flute and guitar. In spite of this fact the two works are as different as night and day: HighLight is a tribute to the clear and frosty daylight, Twilight is much more serene and nocturnal.
The twilight atmosphere is evoced from the very opening of the piece where uneasy descending figures create a mood of insect-humming anxiety. Gradually the music calms down and becomes more and more still and delicate. Out of the mist arises a solemn evening hymn - which must finally give place for the wild and whirling winds of the night.
